The ARDB ACE-GFA Monthly Bulletin (September 2026) explores Low-Carbon Rice Production in Cambodia through Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), with a focus on the pilot project from Battambang Province. AWD can improve water efficiency, reduce methane emissions, and support climate-resilient rice production.
The bulletin highlights key results reported by ThanksCarbon, including up to 28% lower water use, 111.5 tCO₂e of reported emission reductions across 29.63 hectares, and a 13.9% increase in rice yield compared with conventional farmer practices. The case also demonstrates the potential of digital MRV, with approximately 97% lower measurement and verification costs and 99.6% project-area mapping accuracy reported through digital tools. This also connects the Battambang case with Cambodia’s NDC 3.0 target of 90,000 hectares of rice managed using intermittent flooding practices and Sustainable Rice Platform approaches by 2035.
Read the bulletin to learn how AWD can support low-carbon agriculture and create opportunities for green finance and sustainable investment in Cambodia.
